Palm Beach Club, 1990

At the time I didn’t know if it was the flashing disco lights, the almost deafening level of the bass beat or the fact I had never seen a girl dancing atop such a massive speaker before but one thing was for sure, I was totally smitten. There was a problem though, I couldn’t show it.

This was who I was back then; a tough, dominant dyke. I wasn’t about to let some little 22 year old girl know that at that very moment I couldn’t string two sentences together to save my life, that watching her hair flying, her body moving, keeping perfect rhythm with not only the DJ but my quickly pacing heart was doing me in, unraveling me. Oddly, I could somehow hear her laughter even as I was being deafened to everything else and it was a sound, one I wanted to explore further.

See, I had just met this crowd online at one of those Bulletin Boards Systems. I’d chatted with them and I knew that they expected ACE the Master Dyke and her stoic cool self and here I was there now at this party watching a girl I had never laid my eyes on before other than to see her type in a chat room and being totally dismantled by ever shake of her ass and show of her thighs. Watching her my head was reeling or should I say swooning? No! I didn’t swoon, not me! I’d been around, I’d seen my share of strippers, exotic dancers, hell I grew up in Montrose (77006) which back in the 1980s was the gay/leather/hustler/drag Mecca of Texas. But this girl was different. She was sensual yet bubbly, hyper yet totally self aware (was she aware of the state she had me in I wondered?). She was so extroverted and every where she landed, once she came down from atop her throne of speakers, people watched her, gravitated to her.

I must have watched her for hours. One thing for sure, I was pretty convinced I had to meet her. I had to meet this “Firefly”..

Happy Birthday, CJ! 馃槈

You go gurl!!

Something Cool.

I love the website called DeviantArt 聽especially when they have challenges like we over here have our Weekly Photo Challenges. I love photography and Photo Manipulation聽as well. Recently DA gave people an opportunity to make something called a ‘influence map’. I chose to do a Media Influence Map. (rather than say a life influence where I would most likely list religious figures, family members,聽etc..)

So without further adieu, here is mine.

A Map of Media (TV, Movies, Celebrities( that have influenced me.

Daily Prompt: Mix-Tape 12-11-12

Put together a a聽musical聽playlist of songs that describe your life, including what you聽hope your future entails.聽

Odd that the day I came back online having decided my new post would be聽about聽the songs I feel

deepest in my soul聽that the daily mixtape2prompt would be as such. 聽聽GMTA? Perhaps..

So what I will do is combine the two ideas and put all the songs聽that at some point really
touched me and you can be sure if it’s on the playlist, I’ve聽felt it, (some songs deeper than
was comfortable) 聽 So without further adieu:
**actually there was much further adieu since this is now 2 days late due to聽connectivity issues.

Queer: Reclaiming the Spirit of a Word.

One thing about me is that I can’t go on twitter, click on a link (especially聽ones re-tweeted by @evanrachelwood) without going to the site (usually or and reading comments on whatever article the before mentioned link sent me to.

Now your probably thinking, “Okay, so what?” Well, how to say this…….. Stupid folks get my “Irish UP”, which is usually followed by my posting a reply comment and then next thing I know it’s 4 hours later and my quickie 20 min on Twitter is anything but.

Luckily, I have my readers to express my half asleep, unwashed hair, insomnia again, undone laundry and dishes self to knowing that you lovely folks (who聽never rarely comment) will in your steadfast silence reinforce that “it’s okay/I’m okay simply because no one complained”.

So what had me all riled up?

Well, over @ the Faith Cheltenham wrote an article聽entitled, “Why I Celebrate Bisexual Pride”. (Which by the way is September 23 annually since the early 90’s according to Faith) Ms Cheltenham’s article was good and basically a聽commentary/editorial piece about why she embraces the celebration of聽identifying聽as bisexual.

Of course, since I聽MUST聽read the聽all聽comments or suffer some sort of “aneurysm from low blood pressure and a productive lifestyle offline”聽I came across a comment from “Me@yahoo” (such an original username – nothing like owning up to your opinion, eh?) who聽wrote:

“Anyone who proclaims Bisexual Pride while referring to herself and other LGBT folk as “queers” is talking out of both sides of her damn mouth”.聽Reply聽路聽Like聽路聽Follow Post聽路聽Sunday at 3:35pm

So basically in my quick tempered and bad English intolerant way I replied:

“@me from yahoo — I’m not sure what your equivalency in regards to the English language is but the word ”Queer’聽(as well as 聽the word ‘Fag’) wasn’t originally used in regards to the to the LGBT community.聽Fag聽was a cigarette and聽Queer聽was used to describe something different. So to intimate that the Gay community has some type of exclusive ownership of the word Queer is ridiculous. In the last decade many folks who don’t want to be pigeon-holed, gender, sexual or otherwise have gotten back to the original spirit of the meaning of the word ‘Queer’, using it to describe that they are indeed ‘different’…..聽In fact, I think Gilbert and Sullivan said it best in Mikado: “If you want to know who we are”, “We figure in lively paint: Our attitude’s queer and quaint鈥擸ou’re wrong if you think it ain’t!” . Heh. Fits, don’t it?

So maybe an advance course on words and their origins would help you from voicing your opinion at the same time as having your foot in your mouth.”

Then just when I thought it was safe to log off a Mr Anthony Berardo commented:

“Shouldn’t it be called “bench-sitter pride”? What’s an article like this doing in this gay magazine? What a bunch of crap. I remember when this magazine had standards related ONLY to the gay/Lesbian community”.

I have to admit that in my reply comment I noticed that my patience was dropping as rapidly as my IQ was. So my reply was:

@AnthonyBerardo How sad for you that you have become an oppressor no different than those who have been trying to run us gay and lesbians off since way before Stonewall. We gays and lesbians aren’t some exclusive team, love is love and injustice is injustice so maybe rather than discounting those on ‘our side’ embrace the spirit of the word Queer as different. How can I trust you to protect my rights as part of the LG if you scorn the BTQ part of the whole. Grow up and get with the times!

At this point I pretty much called it a night!

Tune into Pretty Little Liars for more Paige and Emily !!

Ever watch Hollyoaks?

No? Heh, neither did I until I heard about “Jen and Tilly” or as some fans call them “Jelly”.聽 So what is it? It’s a UK Soap Opera. Yeah right, so sue me! I like Soap Operas! Maybe because I’m a Baby Boomer and grew up watching them. Since mine were cancelled (GL and ATWT) I never thought I’d watch any again. Then came these two girls!

I really love me some “Jelly” –聽 I don’t know, they make me smile way to wide like an idiot, probably because I remember the witty banter, quick kisses and running on the beach trying to catch my own girl-friends from the past. Over all, UK Soaps are pretty good and less buttoned up as they say in the UK… Of course, Doesn’t hurt me any to watch all those Brit Females either! 鈾
